Learn to nordic walk - Autumn 2016

Learn the complete nordic walking technique so you get maximum benefit from walking

Discover how to build on your natural walking movement, develop the corrrect posture and co-ordinate specially designed poles to help propel you forwards. As a result you'll walk more dynamically and more efficiently as you work your whole body, turning your walk into a workout.  You'll learn using the International Nordic Walking Federation's latest 10 step method.

Find out how nordic walking can:

  • give you a low impact workout that uses 90% of your body's major muscles
  • help tone and strengthen your back, arms and legs
  • help you to lose or control your weight
  • improve co-ordination so you move more rhythmically
  • reduce tension in your shoulders and counteract stress
  • boost your energy levels and general well-being

Who is it for

Nordic walking is done at three levels so it's an exercise for everyone:

  • Health/easy - for those who are less fit or recovering from illness or injury
  • Fitness/moderate - for anyone of average fitness who would like to try nordic walking
  • Sports/fast - for those are fit and practise sport regularly

All introductory classes are run at fitness/moderate level.

Beginners' nordic walking classes

We break the technique down into easy stages using a variety of exercises combined with practice on a walk.  Over 4 weeks you have time to absorb and develop your skills.  The sessions last one and a half hours and  include essential warm up and cool down exercises.  We walk on the grass where possible rather than on harder tarmac paths as this is better for your body.

You can then continue nordic walking to suit your personal goals - to maintain your fitness, help with weight control or simply enjoy a new way of exercising outdoors. You can also join a nordic walking for fitness session.

Classes are generally run in late spring and autumn.
