About the authors
Paddy Field
A former international athlete and coach, Paddy has skied for more than 30 years in over 25 countries around the world. A highly respected figure, he has been a Technical Delegate for the FIS [International Ski Federation] since 1987 where he also chaired the FIS committee responsible for marathon ski racing.
In the UK he has held a number of high level positions including Nordic Director of the British Ski & Snowboard Federation. Co-author of Cross-Country Skiing published in 1987, he was also editor of Ski Nordic, the UK's most popular cross country ski magazine.
Stuart Montgomery
Winter hillwalking brought Stuart to cross country ski-ing in the 1970's. Since then he has been involved in racing, track ski-ing and mountain touring both personally and as group leader. He works in the specialist travel industry and now runs tour operator, XCuk Ltd.
Stuart was one of the first qualified nordic walking teachers in the UK, and is also a fitness and mountain navigation instructor.
