Join in world nordic walking day 22 May 2011
If you've thought about trying nordic walking, then Sunday 22 May is the day to do it. It's World Nordic Walking Day. You'll join nordic walkers across the UK as well as in New Zealand, France, Estonia, Finland, and the USA [to name a few of the countries taking part] in a celebration of this healthy activity.
We're offering the choice of a taster session and introductory workshop in Hyde Park and a second introductory workshop in Richmond Park, see details of our beginners' nordic walking sessions here.
Nordic Walking is a rapidly growing activity in the UK using a method similar to the upper body action of cross-country skiing. It uses 90% of your skeletal muscle, burns 46% more calories than walking without poles and is a complete body workout. It’s popular with runners and triathletes as cross training method, as well as those new to exercise.
Last year’s World Nordic Walking Day saw over 600 people participate in the UK, with thousands joining in around the world. In the UK it's organised by British Nordic Walking who are the UK representatives of the International Nordic Walking Federation [INWA]. Mary Wray - Moving Feet is registered with British Nordic Walking and is an INWA qualified instructor.
