Our Kalamata Extra Virgin Olive Oil

About our olive oil

673396-1548970-thumbnail.jpgKalamata extra virgin olive oil is the best grade of olive oil available.  It has a distinct fresh, green, peppery flavour and a rich golden-green colour.  It is only produced in a specific area in the southern Pelopponese in the countryside around Kalamata.   Our village, Megali Mandinia, and its surrounding olive groves lie within this special growing area.

We pick our olives by hand and take them to the Avia press in the neighboroughing village of Mikri Mandinia. They are cold pressed to make award-winning, Kalamata extra virgin olive oil that carries the DOP quality stamp [Protected Designation of Origin].  The process is strictly controlled and modern stainless steel equipment is used to guarantee fresh, superior quality extra virgin olive oil.

673396-1548968-thumbnail.jpgOil is sold back to producers, like ourselves, and to gourmet food producers such as Gaea who are stocked by Waitrose where the oil retails for £4.99 for a 500ml bottle [April 2008].

Olive oil is best stored in a sealed container in a dark, cool cupboard where it will last for around three years.  Interestingly when you buy from a supermarket you have no way of knowing when your oil was produced given it's not dated like wine.  If you buy a large can, simply decant a smaller amount into a bottle for everyday use, and again keep it in a cupboard.
